THE PROJECT
The aim of the Project is to provide scholarships for school-age girls to attend &
complete their first year of school education, paying for their tuition, school uniform
and other needs. Many Ugandan girls are still in great need of assistance to complete
their education due to extreme poverty, civil war and gender bias. Without adequate
support, these girls are unable to pay for their tuition while others will never have
the chance to attend. The goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities by
supporting basic education & literacy, reducing gender disparity in education and
increasing adult literacy.
The Project is seeking total funds of €15,000 to request a District grant of matching
funds to support 60 girls in the # Rotary Scholarship for Girls Uganda Programme.
Through local partnerships with RC Gulu, Uganda, and Alliance for Africa Assistance*,
it fulfils both Rotary International’s Key Avenue of Service for Education and the UN
SDGs of quality education, poverty, gender equality, economic growth and reduced
inequalities.
Rotary Club Rome International is seeking donations and a Rotary Club partner to
provide 60 scholarships and request a District grant. One girl scholarship is 150 Euros
for each school year.
*Rotary Club Gulu, Uganda, is the club’s local Rotary partner and Alliance for
Assistance Africa is the project’s local operational partner.
